Photovoltaic is a technology whereby the process involves the direct conversion of sun light (solar energy or irradiation) into electrical energy. The process involves photons of light knocking electrons into a higher state of energy to create electricity which is known as the photovoltaic effect. In other words sun light is transformed by the photovoltaic effect into electric energy.

This is done in the solar cells. There are numerous solar cells which make up a solar module/panel. These modules produce direct current (DC) which is sent to the inverter. The inverter transforms the direct current in to alternating current (AC). The alternating current leaves the inverter and is sent to the transformer where the current is transformed into a voltage which is compatible with the local energy provider’s infrastructure.

Before feeding in the generated electricity to the electricity grid the Kilowatt hours (kW/h) are counted on a meter. All data is logged and available instantaneously over secure internet servers or SMS alerts on mobile phones.
